CLOSE-UP OF GUAHAYONA
Guahayona is the epic hero of Taíno mythology.
He is reputed to have been the first shaman who
introduced the cure for syphilis. He was said to
have enticed Taíno women away from their
children and husbands. His journey in a canoe
took him to the island of Matinino (The Island of no
fathers). Matinino became the island of women.
There he left them and continued to Guanin, the
island of gold.
